GLORY

A special life-drawing cycle in three human states — held over three Saturday evenings across Leipzig. It opens on the meadow in Johannapark behind the Lutherkirche, moves to Martinsplatz in Kleinzschocher, and closes indoors at Café Rosa on Merseburger Straße. For our community of regulars, sketchbooks-on-knees.

A note for our regulars

Not the usual posed session.

GLORY is built around a simple shift: instead of arranging the body into shapes, the body arranges itself around a state. Each evening one model moves through several poses — sustained, varied in length — and every pose belongs to a single embodied condition: torpor, longing, or peak.

No costume language. No theatrical staging. The model breathes inside the state, and we draw what the state does to a body that means it. The session is silent except for breath, paper, the occasional change of position.

If you've drawn with us before, this is the version of our practice you've been waiting for: not another Akt or Kostüm und Porträt night — the model isn't holding poses for you, they're living a scene, and you draw your way into it.

Three evenings, three states

A body, given to one condition at a time.

You can attend one chapter or follow all three. The cycle travels — Chapter I drew on the meadow in Johannapark, Chapter II moved west to Martinsplatz in Kleinzschocher, and Chapter III comes indoors to Café Rosa on Merseburger Straße.

Chapter I · already happened

Sloth — The Architecture of Stillness

A study of weight surrendering to comfort. Heavy bodies, long holds, gravity as draughtsman. Twenty- to forty-minute poses, deep value work, charcoal and conté pulled toward graphite. See documentation →

Chapter III

Pride — The Defense of the Summit

Exalted, heroic, almost manic. A sequence of held poses with breath-cycle micro-shifts — a study in how the body defends a peak. Larger paper recommended; the figure wants room to rise.

The arc of the evening

How the evening runs.

Doors open thirty minutes before. Find a spot, set up, settle. We start on time and run as a single uninterrupted arc with one short break between two pose blocks.

The model enters already inside the state — no warm-up, no rehearsal. A facilitator marks transitions and pose changes quietly. There is no instructor walking the room. There is no critique.

A small tea station runs before and after — bring a thermos if you have one. Stay a while, compare pages, lay a study out if you want it seen.

  1. Arrive
Find a spot — pillows and blankets are laid out; bring your own too if you like. Tea is on.
  2. Settle
The state is announced. The model takes the floor.
  3. Draw
Two pose blocks of approximately 50 minutes, one ten-minute break.
  4. Stay
The lights stay soft. Lay a study out if you'd like it seen.
Practical details

What you need to know.

Drawing materials are not provided. Bring what you usually work in. The grass is the easel — most regulars work on their lap or on the floor. If you'd rather work standing, bring a board or a portable easel. Paper up to A2 works comfortably.

Open to all skill levels. The session is silent and unbroken; please arrive on time and stay for the full block.

Photography is not permitted during the sessions. The evenings will not be filmed.

A body that means the state will draw itself, almost. Our job is to keep up.

Questions you might already have

FAQ

Can I attend just one of the three?

Yes. Each evening stands on its own. Regulars usually pick up the full cycle because the states accumulate, but a single chapter is a complete session.

Is this the same as your usual life-drawing nights?

Not quite. Our standard sessions are pose-led — a sequence of arrangements timed by a facilitator. GLORY is state-led: one model holding one condition for the whole evening, across several sustained poses, with fewer cues. The discipline is closer to extended observation than gesture practice.

Who are the models?

Three guest models who have prepared with the project's facilitators over the spring. We are intentionally not naming them on this flyer — the work is the body in the state, not a billing.

What do I bring?

Whatever you draw with. Charcoal, conté, ink, graphite, pastel — all welcome. Paper up to A2 fits our setups. We provide plenty of pillows and blankets; bring more if you have favourites. A board if you prefer to work standing.

Is there a critique afterwards?

No formal critique. After the session we linger a while longer; we encourage informal sharing, but nothing is structured.

I've never drawn from life. Can I still come?

Yes. The format is friendlier to beginners than a fast-gesture night — long holds give you time to look, look again, and start over without panic.

How does the donation work?

Kenaz Kollektiv has financed the production, so there is no required ticket. €10 per evening keeps the lights on and pays the models — a fair amount, and very welcome.
